District Court Programs
The District Courts provide a wide variety of services, including:
Civil Division
The Civil Division processes all civil regular claims and small claims filed, sets the claims for trial, provides personnel to operate the courts, and processes all post-trial judgments and documents.
District Court Probation Branch
Probation officers in the District Court Probation Branch are deputized to aid the courts by preparing the judges’ pre-sentence investigation reports and restitution studies, and coordinating mental examinations of defendants. Probation officers also supervise probationers and offenders on court-ordered control and provide counseling and coordination of rehabilitative services. Note: Kaua`i does not have a separate District Court Probation Branch.
Division of Driver Education
The Division of Driver Education is financed through a fee collected from each individual convicted of a moving traffic violation. This division coordinates and administers a comprehensive traffic safety education and training program as a preventative and rehabilitative effort for both adult and juvenile traffic offenders. Services are offered on all islands and include counseling, instruction, public information, and community education. All offenders convicted of a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) offense are required, by statute, to participate in the Driver Education Program. Learn more about Traffic Cases.
