Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) will be implemented in JEFS on September 13, 2026. Multi-Factor Authentication is the use of more than a single factor, like a password, to authenticate a user’s identity. All JEFS users are encouraged to review the following:

JEFS Use & Registration
  • efiling is currently available for the Hawaii Supreme Court (9/27/10); the Hawaiʻi Intermediate Court of Appeals (9/27/10); state Criminal District Court (8/13/12); Circuit and Family (adult) Criminal courts (1/23/17); District Court Civil (10/7/19); Circuit Court Civil (10/28/19); Family Court Civil (4/25/22); and Land Court and Tax Appeal Court (11/18/19).

The following may register for electronic filing access:

  • Individual Hawaiʻi attorneys
  • Hawaiʻi law firms
  • Any self-represented party with an active case in the Hawaiʻi Supreme Court or the Hawaiʻi Intermediate Court of Appeals; or with an active criminal case in the District, Circuit or Family (Adult) Courts; or with an active civil case in the District, Circuit, Family, Land Court or Tax Appeal Courts

A Hawaiʻi attorney whose status is “active,” “active-government,” “active-emeritus,” or “active-judge” may register for electronic filing. However, attorneys admitted pro hac vice may not register for electronic filing and must file through registered-associated local counsel. Once registered, a user id and password will be emailed to you.

To file electronically or to register for e-filing use the “Register For Access” link from the Judiciary Electronic Filing and Service System (JEFS) login page. Click the JEFS Login and Self-Registration link if you need further details on how to self-register. Each firm is asked to designate an Organization Administrator. A JEFS userid and password will be sent immediately to your primary email address. The last step in this process is to contact your Organization Administration to ACCEPT your registration. JEFS Printing Active Case Documents without Cost
JEFS users can print documents on your active cases without cost

As a registered Judiciary Electronic Filing and Service System (JEFS) user, you may download or print documents in your active cases without cost from your “Manage Cases” screen. Electronically certified copy of public documents can be purchased from eCourt Kōkua. If you are not a JEFS user, please go to the eCourt Kōkua page for information on accessing public documents.

Document Drop Off
Court Document Drop-off is available only in the Third Circuit (Hawaiʻi island) civil and adult criminal courts. The Third Circuit started the service on April 24, 2020.

As of October 31, 2022, Document Drop-off was disabled for the First Circuit (Oʻahu).

As of Monday, April 25, 2022, Document Drop-off was disabled for the Second (County of Maui) and Fifth (County of Kauaʻi) Judicial Circuits.

To register for Court Document Drop-off use the “Register For Access” link from the Judiciary Electronic Filing and Service System (JEFS) login page. Click the JEFS Login and Self-Registration link if you need further details on how to self-register. If you are not an attorney or work for an attorney and just want to use Document Drop-ff, please register as “Self-Represented Litigant.” A JEFS userid and password will be sent immediately to your primary email address.

Monday to Saturday: 4 a.m. to midnight, Hawaiʻi Standard Time (HST)

Sunday: Noon to midnight, Hawaiʻi Standard Time (HST)


ADVISORY: JEFS users should be aware that efiling queues may slow down prior to system shut down at midnight. This may relate to efiling volume, network, and other technical variables outside of JEFS. This may occasionally cause the efiling submission to fail to complete. To avoid this problem, please give yourself enough time to address technical issues prior to filing deadlines.
