How can I obtain a list of registered interpreters?
In accordance with the Hawai`i State Judiciary’s Court Interpreter Certification Program, the Office on Equality and Access to the Courts publishes a Registry (list) of Interpreters available for paid assignments and who meet mandatory minimum requirements for interpreting in the state courts. The registry includes interpreters who have taken an oral interpreting exam recognized by the Judiciary and qualified for a Tier 2 or higher designation. Appendix A (see link to list above) of the Hawai`i Rules for Certification of Spoken and Sign Language Interpreters lists the requirements for each tier level.
Anyone seeking to hire a court interpreter is responsible for further determining the competency and qualifications of the interpreter.
